Studio Jey was commissioned to design the East London headquarters for Clapton Craft, a craft beer and wine retailer with multiple locations across the city. With a unique identity – Clapton Craft Depot – the space integrates a retail offering, bar, and restaurant, while also serving as a functional hub for the team to store, package, and dispatch online orders.
The design features a bar and counter area with an 11-tap back bar, offering a rotating selection of drinks served from a small cold room behind. Opposite, a large cold room is visible to customers, offering a peek into the back-of-house operations and showcasing the vast array of products. Custom-designed fridges and shelving in raw, welded steel embrace the industrial charm of the site, with its exposed ceiling and structural concrete columns.
In contrast, the walls are finished in two tones of plaster—soft putty and deep iron oxide red—which soften the space while adding depth and warmth. Limed oak furniture and canvas upholstery, designed in collaboration with furniture maker Herb Palmer, provide comfortable and inviting seating in the front-of-house area, complemented by three intimate drinking booths along the circulation route leading to the back-of-house storage and office space.
